Alexandra Popa, Psy.D.

Dr. Alexandra Popa is a licensed Clinical Psychologist

Through the relational-cultural model, I strive to establish safe and trusting relationships to facilitate therapeutic work.  I utilize a strengths based approach that is patient centered and collaborative. My goal is to support you in identifying and overcoming the barriers to sustaining change and meeting your goals.

I earned my Master’s degree in School Psychology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan College. With over 15 years as a psychologist I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual and group therapy at multiple levels of care. The primary focus of my clinical work is providing individual, group, and family therapy for clients with eating disorders and other co-occurring conditions. In addition, my training and experience includes working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mood related disorders.    

Areas of focus: Anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, eating disorders, and clients with trauma histories.

 

Louie

Louie is a certified therapy dog with school and clinical experience.

Louie is available to join sessions as needed to provide comfort and support. He loves people, playing, and being fully present in the moment. Louie has participated in both individual and group sessions. His presence in session is optional for interested clients and can be discussed further if requested.

Animal assisted therapy has been shown to reduces stress hormones like cortisol and can reduce anxiety symptoms. There is growing research surrounding the benefits of animal assisted therapy that shows promising results.
